Medication Comfort Kit / Comfort Pack

To add a new comfort kit for use on any hospice patient in Barnestorm:

  1. Select a hospice patient.
  2. Click Patient Histories > Med History form the main menu.
  3. Click the Comfort Kits button on the top of the screen. A new window will open.
  4. Comfort kits must be 3 digits, so you can make them 001, 002 or 100, 200--whatever you like.
  5. To start a new Comfort Kit, enter a three-digit number to define the kit (like 001).
  6. In the are that appears below the number, start typing the name of the first medication in the comfort kit.
  7. Click the med name from the list to select it.
  8. Enter the dose, frequency and route below the med.
  9. If you wish the med to show with YES for hospice (most agencies use this to indicate that hospice pays for the med), click the checkbox beside Hospice Medication.
  10. Click the Save button.
  11. Enter the next med and repeat the process until all the meds in the comfort kit have been saved.

To add an existing comfort kit to a patient:

  1. Select a hospice patient.
  2. Click Patient Histories > Med History form the main menu.
  3. Click the Comfort Kits button on the top of the screen. A new window will open.
  4. Type the number of the existing comfort kit.
  5. Click the Apply this kit to[patient] button.
  6. Close the screen.

Use the kit only for standard groupings. Medications that are not int he comfort kit should be added individually, as usual.
